Interior Vena Cava filters (IVC) devices have been the cause of numerous injuries. Recipients of IVC filters may be at risk for serious injuries due to faulty filters which have punctured veins, fractured and migrated to cause other medical problems. At least 27 deaths have been linked to faulty IVC filters. Three brands in particular have been sighted by the FDA, these are The Bard Recovery filter, The Bard G2 filter and the Bard G2 Express filter. The FDA has also reported 70 filter perforations, 328 device migrations, 56 filter fractures and 146 embolizations.
