Ward Black Law Featured on CBN’s 700 Club

The 700 Club recently featured Ward Black Law in a segment called “Doing the Impossible to Bless Others.

The Greensboro, North Carolina law firm was excited to be featured on the 700 Club, which highlighted the company’s purpose-driven commitment to give away ten percent of its revenue to a range of worthy causes.

Ward Black Law’s Philosophy on Giving

Ward Black Law has given to more than 160 organizations throughout North Carolina and around the world, supporting causes from local food pantries and homeless shelters to orphanages and churches around the world. While the firm has always been dedicated to serving its community, the attorneys launched an even larger charitable giving program in 2013.

Janet Ward Black, the principal owner of Ward Black Law, says the idea to expand the firm’s philanthropic efforts began after Christmas 2012. She felt God was calling her to tithe on the business’s gross revenue in line with her values as a devoted Christian. She wanted the law firm to give away at least ten percent of the firm’s revenue.

She shared her idea with the firm’s Executive Director, Ronda Holloway, who agreed to try it. “I honestly did not know where the money was going to come from, but I was committed to doing it,” says Holloway.

They formed a committee of employees to decide what organizations would receive the firm’s charitable support. They decided to use scripture for their parameters to guide giving. Black explains, “We looked to Matthew 25 about caring for the ‘hungry, thirsty, jailed, strangers, naked, and sick.’”

Since launching the program in 2013, the 25-person law firm has been able to continue its charitable commitment month after month. They credit God for enabling them to continue giving at this level.

According to Wendy Campbell, the firm’s office manager and bookkeeper, they took a leap of faith. Campbell says, “This was not our math. This was definitely God’s math because I was writing checks that I shouldn’t have been able to write.”

Ward Black Law’s philanthropic efforts align perfectly with their philosophy for the firm. “Justice is God’s idea, so we help people seek justice when they’re not able to do it for themselves,” Black says.
