Three Ward Black Law Attorneys Selected as “Best Lawyers”

Ward Black Law announces three attorneys from its Greensboro firm have earned the distinction of being named by U.S. News & World Report to the 2019 “Best Lawyers in America” listing. Janet Ward Black was named to the list for the thirteenth consecutive year and is recognized for her expertise in both mass tort/class action litigation and personal injury litigation. Earning a spot on the list for the second year in a row are Nancy R. Meyers for personal injury litigation and Afi Johnson-Parris for family law.

Janet Ward Black, a NC State Bar’s Distinguished Service Award recipient, is the founder of Ward Black Law, a 40-person firm in Greensboro, one of the largest woman-owned law firms in North Carolina. Black was also awarded the Charles Murphy Award for public service by Duke Law School, the Thurgood Marshall Award for extraordinary service to the people of North Carolina, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by NC Governor Pat McCrory. Meyers earned a degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law. Her credentials and experience have earned her admittance to the US Court of Federal Claims to represent clients who have been injured by vaccines.

In 2013, Afi Johnson-Parris joined forces with Ward Black Law combining her existing family law practice with the opportunity to also pursue her passion for helping disabled veterans. A North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist, Johnson-Parris was named in 2017 as the statewide “Legal Elite” Winner for family law by Business North Carolina magazine. Johnson-Parris is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to attending law school, she attended the University of Miami on a ROTC scholarship and later served as an officer in the Air Force. During her service, she continued in her pursuit of education, earning an MBA in Technology Management.

“None of this would be possible without the support of our incredible team here at Ward Black Law,” said Janet Ward Black. “It’s an honor for all three of us to be acknowledged by our peers.”
