Depakote®, manufactured by Abbott Laboratories, was originally approved for the treatment of epilepsy. Prior to the fall of 2006 Depakote was prescribed to pregnant women without certain warnings. Mothers from across the country began filing reports of significant birth defects after Depakote use. These defects include spinal defects, neural tube defects, spina bifida, cleft palate, facial dysmorphism, congenital cardiac defects, mental disability, limb reductions and other skeletal anomalies.
We are reviewing cases for children with serious birth defects whose mothers used Depakote in the early months of their pregnancies. If you or a loved one took Depakote before or during pregnancy and had a child with a birth defect, please contact our office at 1-800-531-9191 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
