Give a Little Christmas Cheer: Ward Black Law’s 7th Annual “Toys For Tots” Drive

Posted By: Ward Black Law

It’s almost that time of year again- Jack Frost is starting to nip at our noses, Christmas tree stands are popping up and everywhere you look there are miles of decorations. Christmas is officially around the corner. While that statement might bring a twinkle to your eye and some items to your shopping list, the sad reality is that approximately 16.4 million American children are currently living in poverty.

Lending A Helping Hand

This Christmas, Ward Black Law would like to announce their continued partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to sponsor the seventh annual “Toys For Tots” drive in the Greensboro, N.C., community. “Toys For Tots” is an organization whose mission is to “help the less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas.” They also strive to “unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year… and contribute to better communities in the future.”

The kick-off event for the 2014 “Toys For Tots” drive will be held on December 5th in front of the Ward Black Law offices from 7am to 6pm and is open to anyone who would like to donate to this worthy cause. Just bring new, unwrapped toys for children from infants to 12-year-olds to one our donation sites before December 15th.

Monetary gifts to “Toys For Tots” are also appreciated, but not required.  Donated toys will be delivered to needy children in the Triad area by volunteer Marines before Christmas Day.

Come Celebrate With Us!

Please see the flyer below for specific event details or call (336) 333-2244 for more information. We hope to bring some cheer to the less fortunate in the Triad area this Christmas and hope you will join us!

Defective Hip Implant? What the Stryker Settlement Means For You

Posted By: Ward Black Law

An estimated 300,000 people undergo hip replacement surgery annually. If you are among this population, you likely know that some major implant systems have been recalled over recent years. In 2012, Stryker Orthopaedics recalled their Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems after the products suffered a very high failure rate. Due to metal-on-metal corrosion, patients can experience swelling, pain, tissue damage, metal poisoning, bone deterioration and other devastating health issues. The Stryker company stopped sales and production immediately, but – for many patients – it was too late, and costly revision surgery was the only option.

Mesothelioma Awareness Day: September 26, 2014

Posted By: Ward Black Law

In 2004, Mesothelioma Day was established to raise awareness about one of the most deadly and unrecognized forms of cancer. Over the past ten years, organizations have joined together to shed light on the devastating effects, and to raise money for life-saving treatments. As we approach Mesothelioma Day 2014, Ward Black Law and organizations all over the world hope to get people talking about this rare cancer. The lawyers of Ward Black Law have represented victims of asbestos exposure, including Mesothelioma for 25 years.

What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma, caused solely by exposure to asbestos, develops in the thin cell layer that lines the body’s internal organs. Currently, there are three recognized forms of Mesothelioma: pleural, peritoneal and pericardial. Each affects different organ linings from the heart to the lungs, with pleural mesothelioma being the most common form. Diagnosis is difficult and often delayed since the disease can lay dormant for years before causing symptoms. When symptoms do arise, they can be mistaken for other illnesses until they grow to be more severe. Common symptoms include lower back, side and chest pain, discomfort, breathlessness, difficulty swallowing, persistent coughing, fever, weight loss and fatigue.

Do You Know Someone at Risk?

Many people at risk are unaware of potential symptoms of mesothelioma. People who are most at risk include miners, construction workers working with asbestos products, military veterans, 9/11 first responders and any spouse or family member in consistent contact with someone working in with asbestos-laden areas. Although no cure exists, treatment options are being developed to help prolong the lives of patients. As Mesothelioma Day continues to grow, more people are becoming aware of the harsh realities associated with the disease, and many are helping raise money for treatments.

You Can Make a Difference

Ward Black Law invites you to join us in recognizing Mesothelioma Awareness Day on September 26, 2014, we hope to help spread the word and make a difference in the treatment and cure of this disease. You can learn more here.

If you have been exposed to asbestos or have a loved one who was exposed to asbestos, we can review your case, explain your rights and discuss any compensation to which you may be entitled. The initial case review is always free, so contact us today at (336) 333-2244, toll-free at 1 (877) 256-1214 or by email info@wardblacklaw.com.

Recalled Hip Implant: Who do I trust for legal advice?

Posted By: Ward Black Law

Ward Black Law - Hip Implant RecallThe attorneys at Ward Black Law are representing an increasing number of individuals with recalled hip implants, especially the DePuy ASR® hip. Two products from DePuy Orthopaedics, the ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement and ASR Hip Resurfacing System, have caused a great deal of pain and suffering. Are you or a loved one among this population? If so, you have probably sought out your doctor’s opinion on pain management and revision surgery. While it is important to understand your options for medical treatment, it is equally valuable to know your legal rights. Doctors are qualified to address your physical needs, but only a dangerous products attorney should provide information on your rights to a lawsuit. Additionally, an attorney can discuss any compensation you deserve for lost wages, pain, suffering and expensive medical treatment.

If you are among the thousands suffering with a hip implant manufactured by DePuy®, Wright Medical®, Stryker Rejuvenate®, Biomet® or Zimmer Kinectiv®, it is crucial that you seek qualified legal assistance as soon as possible. The attorneys at Ward Black Law are experienced in this practice area and eager to share more about your rights. Here is some of what you need to know:

Surviving a Property Damage Claim: Three Simple Steps

Posted By: Ward Black Law

WBL_RotatorImages-722x399-8-CarWreckAs an average driver, you will likely file a few car damage claims in your lifetime. According to estimates from the insurance industry, most people who get their license at age 16 experience at least one car accident before the age of 34. If you have endured a wreck, you already know that the aftermath is often frustrating and confusing. Haven’t dealt with property damage yet? You should consider yourself fortunate, but prepare for the inevitable. At Ward Black Law, we believe it is vital for drivers to understand their rights under North Carolina law and the rules and regulations of the North Carolina Department of Insurance. That’s why we’ve compiled a free, easy-to-read Property Damage Guidebook. With this resource, you will have lots of information to help you handle getting your car repaired or replaced without a lawyer. Read on to learn more, and download our guidebook for step-by-step navigation.

1) Assess the damage and act quickly

Not injured? After calling the police, take a few notes and photos for your personal records. Injured? Seek prompt medical attention and be sure to document all treatment. You may also want to contact a personal injury attorney for assistance and protection. It is important to remember that not all injuries result in immediate pain. Seeing a doctor to rule out future complications is always advised. At the scene, the police should give you an exchange slip with the other driver’s insurance information. Contact your car insurance company, and the other driver’s car insurance company by phone, and follow-up with a written notice of your claim as quickly as possible.

2) Understand your vehicle’s classification

After the damage is professionally assessed, your car will be classified as “repairable” or “total loss.” If the car is deemed a total loss – meaning repair costs would exceed 75% of the pre-accident value – you and the adjuster will need to reach an agreement on Fair Market Value. More information on this process can be found in our Property Damage Guidebook. Likewise, if your car is repairable, you can use the Guidebook to learn more about repair estimates, diminished value and your right to a rental car.

3) Be proactive and know your rights

It is wise to understand your rights before a car accident even occurs. Our Property Damage Guidebook is absolutely free, and has valuable information for navigating this often complex process. Download the guidebook now, especially if you have recently been involved in an accident. However, if you have been injured, you should contact Ward Black Law for a free and confidential case review. Our attorneys in Greensboro, N.C., have years of experience in this practice area. Call 336-333-2244 or toll-free at 1-877-256-1214.
