Ask a Lawyer Day is Friday, March 1, 2013

On Friday, March 1, 2013, North Carolina residents will be able to talk to a NC lawyer by phone for free during the sixth annual “Ask a Lawyer Day” between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  The event, sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Association, has become a phenomenal opportunity for everyone involved.  Last year during the twelve hour period, a record-setting number of over 10,000 callers had their personal legal questions answered.

Statewide, there will be eight toll-free call centers sponsored by television stations and law firms. Locally, legal professionals will be manning the phones at WFMY Channel 2, and anyone with legal questions may call the station or local call center by dialing 877.391.6179 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013. All calls are free and confidential, so callers will not be asked for their name or contact information.

This statewide “Ask a Lawyer Day” is part of the NCBA’s 4ALL campaign to raise awareness for civil legal aid to the poor. The event was first held in 2008 during the term of NCBA President Janet Ward Black, of the Greensboro law firm Ward Black Law, and has since taken on a life of its own. Hundreds of volunteers gather annually to provide free legal information to thousands of North Carolina residents.
