WARD BLACK LAW NAMED FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMPANY

Ward Black Law has been named one of the North Carolina Family-Friendly 50 Companies by Carolina Parenting, Inc., the parent company of Carolina Parent, Piedmont Parent and Charlotte Parent magazines.  The publisher compiles the list of companies each year that exemplify forward-thinking policies and philosophies that support the working parent.

Janet Ward Black, principal of Ward Black Law and former president of the North Carolina Bar Association, said that she was thrilled that the firm received this accolade.  “We value our staff, our families, and our community, Black said.  “We try to structure our business so these values are apparent to our employees and the public.”

Carolina Parenting accepted statewide nominations all year long and with the help of the Belk College of Business at UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, produced the annual list of companies.  The September issue of the magazines will feature the “NC Family-Friendly 50 Companies” as well as an editorial package for working parents on balancing work and family.  The publisher will also host events honoring working parents and all the award-winning companies in Durham, Greensboro and Charlotte.  Ward Black Law will be celebrating their recognition in Greensboro on September 16 at the Moms @ Work Luncheon.

“It’s a privilege to be named to a published list of companies recognized for being family-friendly,” Black said, “but it’s equally exciting to see that the business community is celebrating family values.  This isn’t a soft issue.  Family-friendliness is good for the bottom line.”

Ward Black Law instills a family-friendly attitude by being flexible with employee schedules to accommodate day care, school activities and sports events.  Celebration of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays are endorsed by management and family participation in events is encouraged.  Benefits such as flexible spending accounts for medical bills and day care are available to all full-time employees. Paid-Time-Off (PTO) is available for use as the employee sees fit, be it vacation time or time-off to care for sick children or parents.
