Toys for Tots - Operation Santa's Helper

GREENSBORO, NC - The US Marine Corps, Greensboro personal injury firm Ward Black Law and Key Memories™ funeral provider Lambeth-Troxler Funeral and Cremation Service teamed up December 4th for the 2009 Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots kick off campaign, “Operation Santa’s Helper.”

The Toys for Tots drive this year collected over nine large cartons of toys.  The event was held at the corner of West Wendover and Virginia Avenue in Greensboro outside business neighbors Lambeth Troxler and Ward Black Law all day Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. The public was invited to stop by and donate new, unwrapped gifts that were distributed to needy children by the Marines in the Greensboro area over the Christmas holidays.

The event was part of a larger Toys for Tots drive, “Brother Bill’s Toy Hill,” a multi-weekend event promoted by WTQR radio personality Brother Bill. All toys collected at the Ward Black Law/Lambeth-Troxler drop location were taken to Wal-Mart in Kernersville on Saturday, Dec. 12, the culmination of Brother Bill’s Toy Hill.

The event was a fun-filled day for all who participated.
• Krispy Kreme provided free doughnuts in the morning for toy donors.
• Ward Black Law provided free biscuits for breakfast (sponsored in part by Bojangle’s)
• Lambeth-Troxler provided free BBQ for lunch and dinner in the afternoon.
• Marines in uniform were on site to collect the donated toys.
• Brother Bill from WTQR was on-site from 11-1.
• CVS was on-site to provide free health screening to donors.
• The Marine Hummer was on-site.
• “Gunny Claus” was there to visit with the kids.
• The Greensboro Fire Department was there.

“Toys for Tots is really a double blessing,” said Janet Ward Black, Greensboro attorney and former president of the North Carolina Bar Association. “Donors are not only reaching out to needy families in our community, but they’re also supporting the men and women in our military. Isn’t that a cool way to celebrate Christmas?”

“As a former Marine, I have been involved in the program for several years. I have seen first hand how Toys for Tots helps make a difference in children’s lives during the Christmas season,” said Neil Breed, Funeral Director and Public Relations Coordinator at Lambeth-Troxler. “This effort will help the Marines fulfill the hopes of more than 43,000 needy children in Greensboro and the surrounding area this year.”

Ward Black Law continued to collect toys until December 18.  The community responded by filling another 6 cartons with toys.  One neighborhood in Greensboro held a Christmas party and "charged admission" of one new toy for attending;  in total that single group collected 65 wonderful toys for the children of our area.  Several offices nearby collected as a service project and brought bags at a time to the collection site.  Thank you, Greensboro.
