Janet Ward Black, Attorney at Law
Janet Ward Black featured in The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area
Janet Ward Black was featured in the May 7, 2009, issue of The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area for her twenty plus years of service to the legal profession and her community. For the past 10 years, the Journal has selected a few extraordinary businesswomen to honor in their publication as inspirations to local businesses and their owners.
This year, Janet Ward Black is one of 18 honorees selected by the editorial staff of The Business Journal. Nominees are considered from all areas of business from sole proprietorships to members of corporate and institutional America. The nominee pool grew by 15% over last year, so that the staff had to judge very closely in order to narrow it down to 18 recipients. Contributions by the honorees in both the private and public sector were considered in selecting the winners.
Janet Ward Blacks professional accomplishments have been many, but she is proudest of her term as President of the North Carolina Bar Association (2007 – 2008) during which time she was instrumental in the organization and promotion of the 4ALL program. The program is a revolutionary idea that helps to provide legal access to the poor and to increase the funding towards that goal. The most publicly visible part of the process is the annual “Ask a Lawyer” Day which makes available to the public by toll free phone, a panel of attorneys to answer any legal question they may have anonymously.
On the private side, Janet Ward Black is a vocal advocate for the poor in America and around the world. She has served on numerous mission trips in various capacities to countries such as Honduras, Nicaragua, China and India.
